Specifically for candidates who will be supernumerary to the employers requirements - or not essential for the successful running of the business - and which allow candidates to do work based learning.

The purpose of the Training & Work Experience Scheme is to allow candidates to learn skills - which will benefit them on their return home - where these skills may not necessarily be available to them in their home country.

Work Permits (UK) approve TWES permits on the clear understanding that the candidate intends to return overseas at the end of their agreed stay.

TRAINING VISA
The candidate should have the skills, qualifications and experience to do the job in line with the expected criteria, proving that they will indeed benefit from the training or work experience on offer.

Entry level qualification for a Training and Work Experience Visa (TWES) is now set at NVQ level 3, however the candidate would normally be expected to have at least an NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification, and be undertaking work experience relevant to the qualification being studied.

The candidate is also expected to have adequate command of the English language to enable them to benefit from UK training or work experience.

The candidate is required to work for a minimum of 30 hours a week and should be offered both salary and conditions in line with which UK nationals receive.

Training Permits are issued for up to 3 years , and it is the employer who applies on behalf of the candidate.

The Work Experience Visa is more limited than the Training Visa in that the visa is normally granted for a maximum of 1 year, however, under exceptional circumstances Work Permits(UK) will grant 2 years .

WORK EXPERIENCE VISA
The work experience should be at managerial, or at least National / Scottish Vocational Qualification (N/SVQ) level 3 or equivalent, which is not readily available in the home country but will be of use there.
The candidate must have the necessary educational, professional or work experience in line with the expected criteria to be able to benefit from the work experience on offer'.
The work must be for a minimum of 30 hours a week, and the employer must provide a programme detailing the planned work experience, and the employment should be surplus to the usual needs of the employer.
The pay and conditions should be in line with that of a resident worker doing similar work experience.
Work Experience programmes should in general NOT exceed 12 months. In exceptional circumstances, a longer period of up to 24 months can be granted.
If you are providing work experience in this country to a student studying at a college outside the EEA, the student would normally be expected to have at least an NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualifications, and be undertaking work experience relevant to the qualification being studied.

NOTE: After a candidate has held a TWES Permit, they are expected to spend a period of time working outside of the UK before they are eligible to hold a full UK Work Permit.

(i.e. If a person was on a Training & Work Experience Visa for 12 months, they will not normally be eligible to return for a further work permit until 12 months was spent working overseas. If they were on a permit for 24 months, they will not normally be eligible to return on a further work permit until 24 months had passed working overseas.)
